Here’s how to create a live poll in less than a minute

Step #1: Create

Before you create an online poll, you’ll first create an account with Swift Polling. But don’t worry – no credit card is required and registration is incredibly quick. Once you’ve created an account, you’ll log-in to our user-friendly dashboard.

From there, you’ll select “Create a poll.”

At the top of the screen, you’ll see a space where you can type in the question you want to ask. Below that, you can fill in the answer options you want to give your audience. You can even upload images instead of text!

On the right hand side of the screen, you’ll find even more options for creating your poll. You can choose from all kinds of templates or backgrounds, and other advanced options like:

  • Options for when a poll becomes inactive
  • Linking to a previous poll you conducted, an external link, or a results leaderboard
  • Select how and if you want to show results, including whether the correct answer will be displayed

Next, you can select how many votes are allowed per device. Depending on your goals, you may allow participants to vote an unlimited number of times, or set it to one or another custom number.

Finally, you’ll see the anonymity feature in the bottom right-hand side of the screen. When this is enabled, your audience can ask questions and share feedback without their identity being displayed.

Once you’re done creating your poll, click “Launch.”

There – you’ve just created a live poll in less than a minute! Now let’s talk about how to present it to your audience.

Step #2: Present

The way you share your live poll will depend on things like your meeting or presentation format, audience sizes, and goals.

Upon clicking “Launch,” you’ll be taken to a screen that includes a “Present” button. Below that, you’ll find a link to share with your audience so they can vote.

Just below that, you’ll see four more buttons:

As you can see, we’ve given you all the tools and capabilities you need to quickly and easily launch your live poll and start collecting results, whether it’s from SMS or web polling.

If you click the “PowerPoint add-in” option, you’ll be taken directly to the Microsoft App Store where you can download the Swift Polling for PowerPoint plug-in. Now, you can include your live polls in your PowerPoint presentation!  For more on embedding polls in PowerPoint slides, click here.

Step #3: Get Results

Once you’ve launched and presented your poll, the results can start piling in! As you collect results, they’ll be displayed in real-time on your user dashboard either in a bar graph or a pie chart – it’s up to you! You can even choose to display these results with your audience to include them.

Putting live poll results to work for you

Based on the results you collect, you can use this information for a number of purposes.

Here are just a few ways you can make use of this helpful data:

  • Guide the course of your presentation: If your audience demonstrates their disinterest in a particular topic through voting, you’ll know to move on from this particular point.
  • Test subject knowledge: Quiz your audience to see what’s really sticking or what you might need to cover in greater detail
  • Encourage discussion: When you share real-time results with your audience, it can spark conversations between team members, employees, and other participants.
